Renée Anne Louprette Masterclass on Louis Vierne’s Symphony No. 3 in F-sharp minor, Op. 28

Wednesday, June 25, 2014
9:45 AM

Trinity Church in the City of Boston

Louis Vierne’s Troisième Symphonie, Op. 28, was composed during one of the darkest periods of the composer’s life. Dedicated to his pupil Marcel Dupré, the work was completed in 1911 and premiered by Dupré at the Salle Gaveau in Paris. Its five movements are rich with expressive drama and emotion, ranging from despair, joy, anger and hope to assurance. Harmonies reminiscent of Wagner, Debussy, and Franck make this one of Vierne’s most lush and exciting works. Renée Anne Louprette, Professor of Organ at Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University, and featured recitalist at this convention, will coach two masterclass participants. Applicants should plan on presenting one of the following movements: I. Allegro maestoso, II. Cantilène, IV. Adagio.
